That was the duration of the 2017/2018 winter season at the Schlosshotel Fiss in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region! This SHF Backstage article aims to give you an overview of the past winter’s many highlights. Of course, the first thing to mention is that this winter was one of the snowiest for quite a while! With up to 3.5m of snow, we all enjoyed superb skiing conditions. The weather was perfect for sunshine winter sports, piste-side delights and carving fun while freeriders and ski tourers were equally thrilled with the winter’s terrific conditions.

50 years of the Fisser Bergbahnen cable car company

Last winter was also very much about this major anniversary, and our guests were able to join in numerous celebrations and retrospectives including the Nightflow snow show which took place every Tuesday on the Möseralm.

Fisser Blochziehen

After an interval of four years, we were once again able to enjoy the Fisser Blochziehen – a custom included in the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The whole village turned out, and more than 10,000 visitors came to enjoy the spectacle. The traditional event was another success of the winter season. Now we just have to wait two years before it’s the children’s turn to perform this ancient ritual.

New General Manager, Christian Buchhammer

This winter season was also our new General Manager Christian Buchhammer’s first at the Schlosshotel Fiss – the SHF Backstage team have already met him for an interview.

A winter of gourmet delights

The region’s annual Culinary Autumn is when the Schlosshotel’s guests can usually expect wine tastings, culinary highlights and other foodie attractions, but this year we also invited winemakers to show off their creations during the winter.

Another major, but unwelcome, feature of the winter were the roadblocks in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. Due to the danger of falling rocks, the three villages were only accessible by an emergency route. However, thanks to the swift action of the authorities, a 400-metre-long road was built in a flash. Now the sunny plateau is once again accessible via the road to Ladis.

Many thanks to all our guests and friends for a fabulous winter season – we’re now looking forward to summer and the 2018 summer season!
