A ski touring paradise – but only with the right equipment

Before we tell you about the best ski touring routes in the stunning mountain scenery around the Schlosshotel Fiss, we would like to emphasise that it is imperative to have the right equipment on the mountains, as well as experience and a proper assessment of conditions. Our specialists in the 5-star Schlosshotel Fiss’s on-site sports shop are happy to offer advice and help you to gather your equipment.

Set out with the right kit

Basic equipment comprises a rucksack, waterproof ski gear, a hat/helmet, gloves, sun cream, snow goggles and a change of vest. For your and your fellow skiers’ safety, you should carry an avalanche rescue beacon, an avalanche shovel, an avalanche probe, an ABS rucksack and a mobile phone. There should also be room in your rucksack for snacks! We recommend taking warm drinks (for example at least a litre of tea in a thermos flask), ready-made rolls and cereal bars for energy. We are of course available to provide advice and support with preparing your provisions.

‘On top’ summit tour

Furgler, Glockspitze, Planskopf, Bliggspitze… for more athletic skiers with ambitions of reaching the summit. The extra effort is rewarded with stunning views overlooking snow-covered peaks and high-Alpine downhill runs.

The medium-difficulty Furglersee and Furglerjoch tour begins at the Komperdellbahn upper terminal (1,965m). The ascent through Lausbachtal is just under 3.5 hours with 1,050m elevation gain, leading to the Furglersee lake (2,458m) then the Furglerjoch (2,748m). From there you can carry on to the summit cross. The descent follows the same path. Use the pistes to return to Serfaus, descending around 1,600m.

Experience the entire length of the Urgtal valley on the medium-difficulty Planskopf Alpine tour. The start and end point is Hochgallmigg at 1,365m. The 9km ascent takes 3.5 hours with an elevation gain of 1,450m to the Planskopf at 2,804m. On the one-hour descent you can enjoy the sublime stillness of almost untouched snow.

The difficult high-Alpine Bliggspitze tour from the Taschachhaus is geared towards very experienced skiers. The 25km long tour starts at 1,880m in Mittelberg in Pitztal (there is a bus from Imst) and begins with an ascent through the Taschachtal to your overnight accommodation, the Taschachhaus. From there the tour continues through the Sexegetertal to the Bliggscharte, then to the Bliggspitze (3,454m). The tour ends back in Mittelberg.
