Biking holidays with children

Family time on two wheels

Steep mountain meadows dotted with dandelions. Lush landscapes framed by fragrant Swiss stone pine forests. And ahead of you, a superb selection of Alpine trails just waiting to be explored. Young riders’ faces light up in the sunshine – because the feeling of freedom and flow is every bit as exciting for children as it is for grown-ups.

What makes Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis such a great destination for a biking holiday with children? Here are a few reasons:

Bike school
Bike park Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: courses for children

The Bikepark is not just for experienced riders. It is also a fantastic place for beginners to discover the joy of mountain biking. For children in particular, the focus is first and foremost on having fun and feeling confident on the bike. Beginner courses are available from the age of four. Children start by learning essential braking and cornering techniques before taking on their first easy trail.

Once they have mastered their first trail, experienced guides help them develop their technique and discover even more flow and confidence. More advanced young riders can even begin practising their first jumps.

A biking tip for your family adventure
Hike & bike

For a special combination of hiking and biking, join our SHF hiking guide Christian Rietzler on a Hike & Bike tour. The experience combines some of the most beautiful hiking trails on the northern side of Fiss with an enjoyable mountain bike descent. After the hike, take a well-earned break at the idyllic Schöngampalm. Here, you will be equipped with a bike before riding back to Fiss along the forest road.

This family bike tour is suitable for riders who are confident cycling on gravel tracks. Child seats are also available for younger children, although it is important to bear in mind that carrying a child makes bike handling more demanding.

Create lasting memories on a biking holiday with your children and share the excitement of exploring the mountains together.

Are your children still too young to ride their own bikes? Child bike trailers are available to rent from our SHF Sportshop. Pair your trailer with one of our e-bikes to make family rides more comfortable, even when the route heads uphill.

New: 9.1 km of Flow on the Zirbentrail

The new Zirbentrail on the northern side of Fiss is a true highlight for mountain bikers: at 9.1 kilometres, it is the longest and one of the most flowing single trails in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. Previously divided into the Almtrail, Flüstertrail and Zirbentrail, the three sections have been transformed into one continuous biking experience for both newer and more advanced riders.

The trail flows through centuries-old Swiss stone pine forests and spectacular high-Alpine terrain before leading directly to the Schöngampalm – the perfect place for a well-earned break. Stop for a traditional Tyrolean snack and a refreshing drink before getting back on the trail. Up here, surrounded by fresh mountain air and magnificent scenery, unforgettable experiences are measured in moments rather than metres of elevation.

Zirbentrail at a glance:

  • Length: 9.1 kilometres
  • Elevation difference: approx. 790 metres
  • Start: Zwölferkopf at 2,600 metres
  • Finish: Almbahn valley station
  • Difficulty: blue (easy) single trail
  • Features: North Shores, rollers and doubles
  • Requirements: basic mountain biking skills
Family e-bike tours
E-biking with children

Cycling is great fun – but keeping up with the adults can sometimes be hard work. An e-bike can provide a welcome boost.

Especially on hilly routes, or when parents are riding e-bikes themselves, an e-bike can help confident young cyclists keep pace with the rest of the family without taking the fun out of the ride. Electric assistance can also provide extra motivation and make longer family bike tours possible – meaning even more time together outdoors in the Tyrolean mountains.

There are, however, a few important considerations when children use e-bikes. Children should already be confident and competent on a conventional bike before switching to an e-bike. They should also have a good awareness of potential hazards and be able to judge and control their speed appropriately.

Our bike experts at the SHF sports shop by Bacher will be happy to advise you on the most suitable bike for your child.
